Enrique Peréz Díaz


Biography

 
Enrique Peréz Díaz (Havana, 1958) is a writer, critic, editor and researcher of literature for children and young adults. From 1993 to 2008 he served as president of the Children and Young Adults Section of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and is currently a member of the Cuban Committee of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) as well as associate editor of Bookbird magazine. He has been the recipient of Cuba’s most important children’s book awards and his works have been translated into a dozen languages. In 1998 he was a fellow of the International Youth Library and in 2014 he served as a jury member for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen (Little Nobel) Awards, the first Cuban to be so honored. Critics have recognized his work for its original, innovative style that transgresses canonical norms to constitute a literature committed to the most authentic rights of childhood.
