St. Lucia, December 2011

A very pleasant and productive day on St. Lucia that allowed time to see a little of the capital city of Castries. The reading at the National Public Library went well. With schools closed for the holidays, the event for the children was a small but enthusiastic affair. Mario donated the collection of Campanita and Little Bell Caribbean titles to the Library and spoke at length with Rosamund Stanislas, Periodical Librarian, about St. Lucian children book authors. Among the sites visited during the short stay were Derek Walcott Square (1992 Nobel Prize for Literature) and the nearby and beautiful Basilica of the Immaculate Conception church. The Basilica is one of the largest churches in the Caribbean measuring 200 ft. long by 100 ft. wide.
